For Jeanine Oxenius art is a part of everyday life, she paints almost everyday and celebrates her work with solo and group exhibitions. She also does events and home staging, teaches and has coordinated some larger scale projects which involved numerous artists from all over New Zealand. Jeanine is not a reclusive artist, art is a celebration of life and she takes the opportunity to participate in group projects when she can. In her subject matter Jeanine likes to visually “plays on words”, her work is explorative, positive and upbeat, she likes to focus on the happier side of life. As Jeanine paints she enters and reflects the world of her subjects, with lightness and joy. She takes great delight in detail. Her effervescent bubbles which can be found in all her paintings stand for the beauty of a moment , a split second of glory! Jeanine’s work is colourful, vibrant and dynamic with a quirky edge and an infectious sense of humour. When asked - Why do you paint? – Jeanine replied “In my painterly world I am holding all the strings but in the real world I barely hold my water!" but joke aside and quite serious she blurs out “I want to leave something behind which brings joy, hope and happiness. We all have dark and lonely moments in our life and I love the idea that my paintings could pick you up and lift you out of the dark and into the light.” “Of course you need to own a creation by me first to have that privilege!!!!!” quipped Jeanine. In 2007 Jeanine started to explore the 3 D side of things and creates sculptures made out of clay. Her Boobie Trapps are well known now and can be found throughout New zealand . In 2008 Jeanine mastered the art of glass castings and again she managed to keep her subject matter light and playful. Her first Sculpture Exhibition in 2009 named ' like peace in a pod ' had all the makings of the playful painter she is but with the bonus of seeing her creations in 3 D. At present she concentrates to learn all aspects of sculpture and has gone back to study for a post gradual degree ... who would have guest it ... in sculpture of course! Watch out for bubbles, and catch them if you can.
